Smanjenje lista čekanja, uvođenje novih usluga i dostupnost tretmana u područnim ambulantama predstavljaju konkretne i mjerljive pomake u kvaliteti zdravstveno-rehabilitacijske skrbi na području općine Žepče.

Kroz kontinuirani rad s djecom i roditeljima, projekt doprinosi ranom prepoznavanju poteškoća, prevenciji njihovog produbljivanja i jačanju kapaciteta obitelji da aktivno sudjeluju u razvoju svog djeteta.

Istovremeno, projekti prekogranične suradnje poput HEARTS-a imaju snažan pozitivan utjecaj na lokalnu zajednicu jer potiču razmjenu znanja, iskustava i dobrih praksi među partnerskim institucijama iz različitih zemalja. Jačanjem stručnih kapaciteta, unapređenjem infrastrukture i uvođenjem inovativnih pristupa u radu, ovakvi projekti doprinose održivom razvoju lokalnih zdravstvenih i socijalnih usluga.

– 2027. Early intervention as a response to the needs of service users within the “HEARTS” project achievess results

The PI “Medical center and the infirmary Žepče” and the Žepče Development Agency, as project partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, are implementing project activities of the “HEARTS” project in the municipality of Žepče. The professional team of the PI “Medical center and the infirmary Žepče”, consisting of speech therapists, psychologists, a physiotherapist, and defectologist, actively provides services to children with developmental disabilities in the municipality of Žepče. In addition to the health center in Žepče, services are also provided in local outpatient clinics.

The multidisciplinary approach enables a comprehensive understanding of each child’s needs and provides appropriate support tailored to individual requirements. Children included in the treatments have shown faster and more stable progress, as professional interventions complement one another.

During the implementation period so far, a total of 4,638 treatments have been provided, involving 279 children, while 48 children are currently on the waiting list.

A total of 121 children have been included in speech therapy services, 16 of whom received services in local outpatient clinics. The total number of provided speech therapy treatments is 2,432, including 300 treatments in outpatient clinics. Prior to the start of the project, 52 children were on the waiting list, while currently there are 22 children on the waiting list at the health center and 15 children in outpatient clinics.

Psychological services have been provided to 34 children, including 18 in outpatient clinics, with a total of 697 treatments delivered, 369 of which were provided in outpatient clinics.

Physiotherapy services included 89 children, with a total of 783 treatments provided.

New services established within the project include Neurofeedback services, involving 12 children with 410 treatments provided, and defectology services, involving 23 children with 316 treatments delivered. Currently, 11 children are on the waiting list for defectology services.

The engagement of additional professional staff, professional training, and the procurement of equipment have enabled a reduction in waiting lists for children, as well as the provision of services in local outpatient clinics.

Timely professional support not only contributes to the improvement of children’s functional abilities but also significantly supports and empowers families in coping with the daily challenges associated with developmental disabilities. The reduction of waiting lists, the introduction of new services, and the availability of treatments in outpatient clinics represent concrete and measurable improvements in the quality of health and rehabilitation care in the municipality of Žepče.

The HEARTS project is of exceptional importance for children with developmental disabilities, as it enables easier access to professional services regardless of their place of residence and lays the foundation for better social inclusion, education, and an improved quality of life in the future. Through continuous work with children and parents, the project contributes to early identification of disabilities, prevention of their escalation, and strengthening the capacity of families to actively participate in their child’s development.

At the same time, cross-border cooperation projects such as HEARTS have a strong positive impact on the local community by encouraging the exchange of knowledge, experience, and good practices among partner institutions from different countries. By strengthening professional capacities, improving infrastructure, and introducing innovative approaches to work, such projects contribute to the sustainable development of local health and social services.

The HEARTS project is therefore an example of how targeted investment, partnership cooperation, and a focus on the real needs of users can result in lasting positive changes—for children and their families, as well as for the wider community.

The “HEARTS” project has been approved for funding under the INTERREG VI-A IPA Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro cross-border cooperation programme 2021-2027. The project partners are the Vukovar-Srijem County Community Service Centre as the lead partner, the Vukovar-Srijem County Development Agency, the Žepče Development Agency, the Public institution “Medical centre and the infirmary” Žepče and the Podgorica Association of Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities.
