- poticanje fine i grube motorike kroz razne vježbe i igre,
- razvoj socijalnih vještina kroz igru i povremene grupne aktivnosti (obično u paru),
- poticanje razvoja govora, razumijevanja i proširivanje rječnika,
- suradnja i savjetovanje roditelja radi boljeg razumijevanja potreba djece.

As part of the HEARTS project, the Public institution “Medical center and the infirmary” Žepče introduced the services of a special education specialist
During the implementation of the project “HEARTS – Equal Access to Health Services for All Vulnerable Groups”, the Public institution “Medical center and the infirmary Žepče” recognized the need to further strengthen its professional team by including a special education specialist, thereby achieving a more comprehensive and efficient approach in working with children.
There is a growing number of children who show difficulties in speech-language development as well as in attention, behavior and sensory processing. For this reason, a multidisciplinary approach enables a thorough understanding of a child’s needs, and the provision of adequate support tailored to each individual child. Among the children included in the project, faster and more stable progress has been observed, as the expert treatments complemented each other.
The individual treatments provided by the special education specialist are adapted to the needs of the children and include activities such as:
- developing attention, concentration, and memory,
- stimulating fine and gross motor skills through various exercises and games,
- developing social skills through play and occasional group activities (usually in pairs),
- encouraging speech development, comprehension, and vocabulary expansion,
- cooperating with and advising parents to help them better understand their children’s needs.
During the implementation period, a total of 244 treatments were conducted, involving 21 children, while 6 children are currently on the waiting list.
The work also includes counselling for parents, providing them with guidelines for working with their children at home, which is of great importance. Parents have shown interest and motivation, and they emphasize that they have noticed positive changes in their children’s everyday functioning. These results confirm that the multidisciplinary approach within the project has played an important role in encouraging child development and strengthening support within families.
To evaluate the work, impressions and comments were collected from the parents of the children involved. Here are some of their impressions:
“At first, everything was confusing for me, my mind was in a mess. Through conversations and counselling, everything became clearer. I’m glad I received explanations in a simple and understandable way.” (Mother of a 6-year-old girl)
“I notice that my daughter, who is on the spectrum, is getting more involved in everyday activities. When I talk to her, she follows me.” (Mother of a 4-year-old girl)
“My son is more present, reacts more and shows interest — as if he's not only in his own world, which means a lot to us.” (Father of a 3-year-old boy)
This proves that the project not only brings changes in working with children but also provides emotional and educational support to parents.
The “HEARTS” project has been approved for funding under the INTERREG VI-A IPA Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro cross-border cooperation programme 2021-2027.
